What Sets Dyson Vacuums Apart?

We have chosen five vacuums for our best Dyson vacuum cleaner reviews currently available in the Australian market

But first, let’s inspect what makes a Dyson worth the money.

Vacuum cleaners from Dyson always have the same two core features that the founder, Sir James Dyson, worked so hard to patent - Cyclonic technology and no bags.

Be it their handheld, cordless, upright or even cylinder versions, all of their vacuums have these two core properties.

Here are some of the seven most striking features found in our best Dyson vacuum reviews:

Cyclonic Tech

Cyclonic technology swirls dust and debris around violently in a circle - separating them within a centrifugal chamber and preventing clogging.

Dyson vacuums today come with cyclonic technology - separating even the finest of dust particles.

Bagless

While it is common to see bagless vacuums today, Dyson was the first to do it.

The major benefits of a bagless vacuum are that you won’t have to spend money for operation by purchasing replacement bags.

For the carbon-conscious Aussie, replacement bags are an unnecessary contributor to pollution.

The obvious drawback of a bagless vacuum is that it can be tough to dispose of without releasing some dust into the air, a hazard for people with severe allergies.

Price

The best Dyson vacuum cleaners are packed with a host of features that make them an ideal fit for the tech-savvy Australian consumer.

With scanning technology, cordless mechanisms and Cyclonic Technology, the Dyson truly is worth the price.

But the investment can be steep for most Australian homes.

Range

From top-notch upright vacuums, Dyson also specialises in ball vacuums and handheld models.

Dyson is practically a pioneer of the cordless vacuum.

The cordless vacuum space has some of Dyson’s most popular new products such as the Dyson V6, V7, Dyson V8 and Dyson V10.

Small Capacities

The Dyson is practical and lightweight - but it comes at a cost often.

Most of the best Dyson vacuum cleaners have a limited capacity in their dust canisters.

If you have a large home with a lot of members, then a Dyson with a limited capacity could be highly inconvenient.

Remember to check the litre capacity of the dust canisters in the Dyson you were keen on purchasing!

Filtration System

Dyson uses high-efficiency particulate arresting (HEPA) filters, which can effectively filter out dust particles of as little as 0.5 microns.

For people that suffer from severe allergies or breathing difficulties, there are HEPA filters in the best Dyson vacuum cleaners.

To maximise the application, most Dyson vacuums come with a mattress tool or a soft duster for making sure that you can clean anything at home.

Ideal for Pets

Cyclonic technology is excellent in sucking up fur that your friendly pets have shed at home.

Stiff nylon bristles in the head of Dyson vacuums also helps to deeply penetrate shaggy rugs to get rid of the most stubborn pet hair.

The HEPA filters on the Dyson ensure that even microscopic allergens from your pet’s fur are captured and removed.

Best Dyson Pet Vacuum: Dyson Light Ball

Top Pet Vacuum Cleaner

Dyson Light Ball

A powerful upright vacuum that is equipped with Radial Cyclonic Technology, a self-adjusting vacuum head and is one of the top pet vacuums around.

The Dyson Light Ball is an upright vac that comes with Dyson’s cutting-edge “Radial Root Cyclone” technology.

This technology remodels the airflow inside the vacuum and stops the Dyson from losing suction power.

The Light Ball also has a canister emptying system which makes it extremely simple to dispose of debris collected.

As its name suggests, there is a ball at the end of the vacuum, which makes mobility easy while also capturing more dirt.

We found that the ball on the base of this upright helped us to steer the vacuum in tight corners and reach tricky spots. An instant-release wand will also go a long way in making above-floor cleaning effortless.

The ball also creates a self-adjusting head which adjusts according to the floor type - be it plush carpet or tough floorboards.

HEPA filters on this Dyson machine make it the ideal device for a home with newborns or people with nasty dusty allergies.

These filters can be removed and washed as well.

We found that the Dyson Light Ball performed admirably across floor types and exceptionally well in picking up pet hair and fine fur.

One benefit with this upright vacuum is that at under 6.5 kilograms, it’s relatively light.

A small dust canister of only about 1.6 litres is a severe drawback!

All things considered, this upright vacuum has supremely powerful suction and some accessories that really make it a good financial choice.

  • Radial Root Cyclone technology ensures that suction power is top-of-the-line
  • Bagless design
  • Affordable pricing
  • Ball design increases mobility
  • Excellent filtration system
  • Can get above-floor cleaning done
  • Bin emptying system is simple
  • Relatively lightweight
  • Heavy investment
  • Small dust canister capacity

Best Dyson Barrel Vacuum: Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal

Best Barrel Vacuum Cleaner

Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal

No filters mean no maintenance on this barrel vacuum, with Cinetic Technology to separate even the most minute dust particles.

The major draw for the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal Vacuum Cleaner is simple - no maintenance!

The distinction comes from not having any filters to replace or clean regularly.

Cinetic technology is another groundbreaking feature, helping to separate even microscopic dust which usually goes on to clog most vacuum cleaners.

Emptying your vacuum canister will be easier than gulping down duck soup, requiring only the press of a button!

Tough corners can be effectively handled as the handle on this vacuum can rotate in a full circle.

Don’t bother picking this vacuum up if you let go of the handle by mistake.

An interesting feature is that the vacuum can pick itself back up on its own!

The price for this cutting-edge vacuum can be a roadblock, however, as it does not come cheap.

  • No filters for maintenance
  • Powerful suction
  • Cinetic technology
  • Steep price
  • Bagless

Best Dyson Cordless Vacuum: Dyson V8 Absolute Cord Free

Best Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Best Dyson Cordless Vacuum Dyson V8 Animal Cord Free

Dyson V8 Animal Cord Free

A super-quiet cordless beauty that adjusts to different floors, comes with Cyclonic Technology and 40 minutes of battery time.

The Dyson V8 Absolute consistently shows up in lists of the top vacuums in Australia and is generally considered one of the best stick vacuums in the market.

What gets most people raving about the V8 is the lack of cords.

The V8 runs on batteries that run for 40 minutes on a full charge in the normal mode, dropping down to 7 minutes in the high-power mode.

The nylon bristles on the nozzle of this vacuum are stiff and dig deep into your carpet to dislodge any debris.

When moving onto hard floors such as porcelain tiles or floorboards, these bristles can be retracted with the push of a button.

Cyclonic Technology ensures that even the most minute of dust particles are captured.

An accessory with the V8 Animal is especially effective in capturing pet hair.

The V8 is effective in handling staircases and tight corners as it can be easily converted into a handheld device.

With a state of the art HEPA filter and a quick release button for disposing of the dust canister, the V8 will keep the dust away!

A special feature of the V8 that has got us speechless is the quiet in which it operates, something Dyson has struggled with in older models.

The pistol-like grip of the Dyson can be slightly uncomfortable, however.

Like most Dyson’s the V8 does not come cheap, but we loved the vacuum too much to complain too hard!

  • Cordless
  • Adjustable to floor type
  • Low noise
  • Battery time on high-power is low
  • Steep Price
  • Bagless

Best Dyson Stick Vacuum: Dyson Cyclone V10

Best Stick Vacuum

Best Dyson Stick Vacuum Dyson Cyclone V10

Dyson Cyclone V10

This sleek cordless stick vacuum showcases one of the most powerful motors Dyson has ever built and 60 minutes of battery time.

By any measure, it would be quite a task to top the standard set by the V8. But with the Cyclone V10, Dyson upgrades on the V8 in a few ways.

Battery life has been bumped up to 60 minutes of cleaning time versus 40 minutes on the V8.

The dust bin on the V10 is a good 40% larger than the one fitted on the V8.

Dyson also claims that the motor for the V10 is the most powerful Dyson has ever made.

That means this ultralight stick vacuum has suction power usually reserved for larger upright or barrel vacuums.

Accessories including the soft roller cleaner in the head of the vacuum collects fine debris from carpet while also picking up large chunks from hard floors.

We found that the three power modes on offer were excellent for every type of floor.

We used the soft mode for porcelain tiles, hardwood and laminates, with the V10 working like a charm every time.

By alternating between the medium and high mode, every carpet can be dealt with satisfactorily.

Once again, for a stick vacuum, the V10 may seem to have an overpriced price tag. But the performance is unparalleled.

  • Powerful suction
  • Bigger bin than the V8
  • More battery power than the V8
  • Battery time on high-power is low
  • Steep Price
  • Bagless

Newborn children and people with a propensity to have asthma need to be shielded from a dusty environment.

This vacuum cleaner from Dyson is engineered keeping that in mind.

Nineteen cyclones inside the vacuum helps to create magnificent suction power, sucking up all dust in its path.

The ball roller on the head of the vacuum helps to increase the flexibility of this vacuum to get to the tightest corners.

The head of the vacuum can adjust to the floor type so that you never lose suction when transitioning from carpet to floorboards.

With a touch of a button, this vacuum can be ejected safely and efficiently, without being released into the air at home.

At only about 5.5 kilograms, the Dyson has managed to combine all of these features in a lightweight package.

  • Bagless

The Interesting Origin of Dyson Vacuums

Over 45 years ago, a young British man in his mid-twenties bought a Hoover vacuum cleaner but was frustrated at how quickly the cleaner lost its suction and became clogged.

As an accomplished inventor, he had invented a variation of the wheelbarrow that was made using a ball instead of the wheel.

This young man came to know that sawmills used a large system called centrifugal separators.

Working like a cyclone, dust and other debris could be separated under this large machinery to prevent clogging.

The only problem was nobody had attempted to adopt this technology for vacuum cleaners.

The young man was fascinated beyond measure and eager to find a breakthrough.

He went on to break into a sawmill at the dead of night in order to measure equipment and understand how they worked!

The first prototype he made was made of cardboard and scotch tape!

The young man went on to lose his job as his bosses thought he was investing too much time in something futile.

In a backyard shed, the young man would belt out over 5,000 prototypes in a little over five years.

By 1983, he had finally invented the world’s first bagless vacuum, but commercial success was hard to come by.

Major vacuum manufacturers were reluctant to license his design, so the young man took his product to Japan.

By 1991, his vacuum cleaner had won an international award for design and blown the competition out of the water in Japan.

The now middle-aged man was still intent on establishing himself in his home, the UK.

An ad campaign was launched which said that with his product, homes would not have to buy any replacement bags.

His product, the Dyson Dual Cyclone, became the fastest selling vacuum in the history of the UK.

Nearly two decades after his initial idea, the inventor - Sir James Dyson - was finally a success.

James Dyson has raised eyebrows because of some hardline stances he has adopted.

For starters, Dyson has been very vocal about the need for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union.

The British billionaire even went as far as to call out the current UK government to even walk out without making a deal.

If the UK leaves the European Union without crafting a deal, most economists agree that the effect would be catastrophic for the economy.

However, what has really brought James Dyson under the scanner is some blatant hypocrisy.

After decades of maintaining the headquarters of Dyson in the UK, earlier this year the company changed tack and shifted to Singapore.

While Dyson's executives claim that the move has "nothing to do with Brexit", it is hard to believe for a few reasons.

For starters, James Dyson has spent a stunning AU$ 105 million to buy the most expensive home in Singapore!

Also, the company's CEO Jim Rowan and finance director Jorn Jensen will relocate to Singapore.

Moving onto business reasons, the corporate tax rate in Singapore is 2% lower than what it is in the UK.

More importantly for the ageing billionaire, there is no inheritance tax charged in Singapore!

In the UK, his family would have to pay 40% tax for any inheritance they gain following James Dyson's passing.

Considering that the current net worth of James Dyson is a staggering AU$ 15 billion, the value of the move is massive!

One UK opposition politician said that James Dyson is "ditching Britain" and is displaying "staggering hypocrisy"!

Dyson continues to claim that the move is to ensure that Dyson can capitalise on the growth of neighbouring Asian economies.

Our Verdict on Dyson Vacuums

For a couple of decades now, Dyson has surely been at the forefront of vacuum technology.

The market share it has amassed over that time is a testament to the exceptional brand image the company has cultivated.

The top Dyson vacuums we have had a chance to review were all state-of-the-art machines with powerful motors.

Sturdy and reliable build quality was a recurring feature in all of the Dyson vacuums we tested.

The unique features like balls on the vacuum base and radial cyclone will keep you keeps you interested in the brand always.

The Cinetic Big Ball Animal vacuum has the added benefit of basically zero maintenance.

The Dyson V10 is, to put it bluntly, the best cordless vacuum your money can buy in Australia at the moment.

Yes, these vacuums will burn a hole in your pocket, but the investment will keep your home spotless for years!

  1. Helpful info. Fortunate me I discovered your website accidentally, and I’m stunned why this twist of fate didn’t took place earlier!
    I bookmarked it.

  2. I have had 2 now 3 upright light ball dyson vacuums and each has lasted around 4 weeks and had to be replaced, the head stopped on the first, the ball ceased on the second and the third is still working fingers crossed, the suction is beyond compare however the rest of the machine is flimsy with too many plastic pieces that break, I think it is an over priced machine with technology that is now readily available in other brands.
