What Makes Shark Vacuums Special?
VacuumShop has chosen five of the best Shark vacuums in order to complete our best Shark vacuum reviews.
Before we plunge into the best Shark vacuum reviews, let’s explore some essential features found in the best Shark vacuum cleaners.
With a product line ranging from upright vacuums, handheld models to cordless vacuums, all of the best Shark vacuums have unique core features.
Take a look at some of the five most distinctive Shark vacuum features:
Shark vacuums are all made and assembled in China.
While Chinese-made products usually do get a bad rep, the quality of a Shark vacuum cannot be argued.
Shark gives a warranty of between three to five years for almost all of its models!
Just one of those stereotypes that never seem to die unfortunately we reckon!
Many Shark vacuums will convert to a handheld vacuum with the press of a button.
Usually designed to lifts away from the vacuum head, this feature lends greater flexibility.
A variation of this technology from Shark, called the Powered Lift-Away, will also deliver power directly to the brush roll head of your vacuum, making it rotate for top-notch cleaning action.
With DuoClean tech, two brush rolls will be working together simultaneously to remove any mess on any floor type.
We found that Shark vacuums fitted with DuoClean technology usually only require a single pass-through to clean up any mess!
As the second brush has soft bristles, it works remarkably well on hard floors such as porcelain tiles or floorboards.
Much like the AirClean filtration system found on Miele vacuums, this technology is Shark vacuums own take at what a filtration system should be.
The wonderful thing about this filtration system is it captures up to 99.5% of allergens.
When dust remains inside your vacuum, it helps create a safe environment.
Shark vacuums usually come with a patented technology called the MultiFLEX.
Essentially you can bend your vacuum wand and reach underneath your furniture easily.
Being able to fold your vacuum also means that you can easily store your vacuum anywhere, as you please!

Best Shark Upright Vacuum: Shark DuoClean Powered Lift-Away
Top Upright Vacuum
Shark DuoClean Powered Lift-Away
One of Australia’s best upright vacuums, this quiet machine can be detached for easy cleaning and is excellent on all floor types.
We found this upright vacuum from Shark to be so impressive, that it made its way to our list of the best vacuums you can find in Australia!
With its DuoClean technology on display, this vacuum will handle both your soft carpets as well as your hard floors.
The DuoClean technology is showcased with a soft brushroll that leave your floors with a polished look while a rough brush with hard bristles allows you to clean thick carpets.
The presence of an excellent Anti-Allergen filtration system as well as a HEPA filter is great.
With Powered Lift-Away technology, this vacuum will send power directly to your brushroll even when it's detached, making handheld cleaning effortless.
With the Pet Multi-Tool accessory attached, this powered system allowed us to dislodge pet hair easily from the carpet!
We admired that all of these features are packed into a Shark vacuum, albeit at a slightly steep price!
Our review team also noted how easily this vacuum swivels and steers.
We also appreciated how quiet this model is when cleaning!
Being a bagless vacuum, we were slightly disappointed at the dust bin capacity of only about a litre!
The only other complaint we have is that it is slightly on the heavier side at 6.7 kilograms.
Best Anti-Allergy Vacuum Cleaner
Shark Navigator Lift-Away
An excellent double filtration system, as well as HEPA filters, make this lightweight vacuum an excellent device for people with dust allergies.
One of the best Shark vacuums we reviewed is the Navigator Lift-Away.
While it comes at a premium price, the vacuum is a versatile cleaner.
We especially loved this vacuum for excellent suction as well as its easy steering.
We could also appreciate how light this vacuum when its lift-away tech was applied, weighing in at only a little over 3 kilograms when converted to the handheld mode.
This vacuum has a shutoff button for the brushroll to transition between carpeted and hard surfaces easily.
We believe this vacuum is an excellent choice for homes with a newborn, or breathing difficulties.
The reason is the top-notch double filtration system in place inside this vacuum.
Decked with HEPA filters, nearly all dust is captured within with Shark’s own Anti-Allergen technology.
A double whammy for dust if you ask us!
Compared to most Shark models, however, the cord for this vacuum is slightly shorter - which can be an annoyance.
With only 1.3 litres of capacity in its dust canister, we weren’t too happy with that aspect of this bagless vacuum.
Best Shark Corded Stick Vacuum: Shark Rocket Ultra-Light
The Rocket Ultra-Light is Shark’s take on what a corded stick vacuum should be like.
This slim vacuum will help you vacuum tight edges as well as tough to reach spots at home.
With the excellent swivel technology of Shark once again showcased, pushing this vacuum around is easy as cake!
To make this vacuum still more natural to handle, it also converts to handheld mode.
Decked with a soft brush roll for your floorboards, this corded stick vac goes the extra mile with a Car Detail Kit.
At just over 6 kilograms, this vacuum never feel like a weight on your shoulders!
We also appreciated how easy Shark had made access to the brushroll for quick maintenance and easy cleaning!
A 7.6-metre power cord is also a great tool for getting cleaning done fast.
We also found the LED lights on the vacuum head, practical for spots under furniture!
One issue is that the head may be a little too narrow - measuring only about 8 inches.
We also found the dust canister to be slightly low capacity - at only about 0.4 litres.
If you are tired of waiting hours for your cordless stick vacuum to recharge, then this corded stick oozes convenience!
Best Shark Stick Vacuum: Shark IONFlex 2X
Best Stick Vacuum
Shark IONFlex 2X
A cordless vacuum with two batteries, making cordless cleaning a dream with 45 minutes of battery life.
We’ll give it to you straight - this cordless vacuum will be a significant investment.
But put quite simply, this cordless beauty with powerful suction is truly value for your money!
Unlike most cordless vacuums, you don't have to worry about your battery running out as this vacuum comes with two removable batteries.
While you clean your home, you can start charging the second battery, making sure that there are no annoying breaks in your cleaning.
You get about 45 minutes of cleaning in, if you exhaust both of your batteries!
Equipped with Shark’s trademark DuoClean technology, you can easily alternate between different floor types.
Also showcasing Shark’s MultiFLEX tech, the wand of this cordless vacuum can bend to reach under furniture as well as make storage hassle-free.
Like most cordless vacuums, this vacuum is ultra light, weighing in at under two kilos!
The dust canister is low capacity, although that seems to be the norm for lightweight cordless vacuums these days!
If the IONFlex 2X is out of your budget, then look into the original IONFlex with a single battery.
Best Shark Robot Vacuum: Shark ION Robot RV750
Best Robot Vacuum
Shark ION Robot RV750
An independent robot vacuum that does the cleaning for about an hour before recharging on its own!
We can’t speak for everybody, but despite the premium price of robot vacuums, we absolutely love how easy the modern ones have made our lives!
With the ION Robot RV750, Shark has made a robot vacuum that cleans your home and recharges itself automatically!
Talk about self-sufficient!
Everything you need to get done can be programmed in this handy robot through an app on your smartphone.
This vacuum is also compatible with Amazon’s Alexa device, allowing you to control your home cleaning with your voice virtually!
The presence of a magnetic tape along with this vacuum will help you to cordon off parts of the home where you don’t want this vacuum to venture into!
We were also delighted with the battery run time of a little over an hour!
We were slightly disappointed that unlike many premium robot vacuums, this one does not have mapping enabled, and therefore cleans randomly.
This can be forgiven as this robot vacuum comes at a lower price than most robot vacuums!
Also in our tests, this robot vacuum got caught up in shaggy carpets.
If you have a carpet with long fibres or have high-pile rugs, this robot vacuum is not for your home.
Keep in mind that robot vacuums can rarely substitute for deep cleaning, and is usually made use of for up-keep.
We did find, however, that this robot vacuum does a great job in picking up pet hair - a rarity!
How Did Shark Vacuums Come About?
Mark Rosenzweig moved to Canada from Europe with big dreams in 1995.
For over a century, his family primarily dealt in sewing products sold in Europe.
With the help of his parents, he ventured into making appliances for the North American market.
But as a new player in the market, Rosenzweig was stumped for years on how he could beat the big boys - the Dyson’s, the Hoover's and the Electrolux’s.
As lately as 2008, his Euro-Pro products only enjoyed a 1% market share in the American market.
But then Rosenzweig changed two things - he moved his headquarters from Canada to Massachusetts in the U.S.
Rosenzweig also revamped the marketing strategy of his firm.
Euro-Pro spent hundreds of millions of their advertising budget on late-night shopping channels, carving a niche for themselves.
By 2018, the company enjoyed a 35% market share, and doubled its revenue!
By doing so, they knocked British heavyweight Dyson off their perch of dominance in the USA!
As Euro-Pro’s Shark vacuum cleaners and Ninja kitchen appliances became popular all over the world, the company changed its name to SharkNinja in 2015.
By early-2017, SharkNinja’s products had made the company worth USD $1.5 billion!
Our Verdict on Shark
Shark vacuums are a welcome reprieve for Australians who were thinking that they would need to spend lavishly to land a good vacuum such as a Miele or Dyson vacuums.
For the features found in a Shark vacuum such as swivel steering and powered lift-away, we are surprised that they are still affordably priced.
For a top-quality upright vacuum, take a close look at the DuoClean Powered Lift-Away vacuum which can be detached for easy cleaning.
We also believe that with its multiple batteries, the IONFlex 2X provides one of the best user experiences for a cordless vacuum.
While you ponder our pick of the best Shark vacuum reviews, consider the unique needs of your home before settling on a decision.
